T-6D Texan II - is it 14-0064 or 14-00064?

Mark P and I shot the same aircraft at Sun N Fun this year. something I had never heard of until recently a US Army Texan II.

I hadn't put up the profile yet for it as i have a few military ones from the show that needed to be added. On another site I use, I put it with the three zeros. as I also saw it on Jetphotos as 00064. Can't find a c/n for it anywhere.

The Joe Baugher site where I do most of my military referencing is confusing too. It doesn't have either 0064 or 00064, but it has both an 0065, 0067 as well as an 00065-00068.

Does anyone know if it should be 2 zeros or 3?

ok I noticed that we are using the 000 version here for 00065-00068, so I went and created an 00064 for this. Please move Mark's 0064 picture to the 00064 section.

Got the following from Joe Baugher's AF page:

In 1958, a regulation was promulgated which decreed that that the tail number should be expanded to a minimum of 5 digits in length.

i think that is referring to the "year" portion too. Remember some of the aircraft in the 50s had numbers like 55-379 instead of 55-0379.

There are still plenty of air force aircraft that are done like 14-0375 etc.

Might be an Army thing though to have the second set of digits as 5. Most helicopters I noticed do. Like a lot of Blackhawks are something along the line of like 15-20134 etc
