Rapide tidy-up - episode 1, more will follow

All should have two engines (many listed as zero)

Current split into DH89 Dragon Rapide and Dominie is confused. Most listed as Dominie should be post-war Rapides and it might be best to have all civilian disposals listed as Rapide. The only examples I am aware of being referred to as Dominies are some of the New Zealand examples.

Proper cns to replace current data with previous military serial (or corruption thereof)

I have already carried out ssimilar work on the Tiger Moth content of the database.

I have a strong preference to maintain the original built identity, i.e , if it was first built as a Dominie that should remain as the model name. It is not possible to have more than one name where registrations are linked but additional data may be added to the comments..

I also, as with the Moths, intend to include the original military registrations in the linked profiles.

This data is contained in an Internet website but will check out your listings against it.

For example, Against 6913 I have NR849, G-AGZO, F-BGZJ and OO-ITI. Not sure why you believe F-BGZJ to be incorrect. I have F-BGZT as Tiger Moth 83875 with T7349 G-ANJG.

Corrections to the number of engines, etc., will follow after the manufacturer, model and cn have been confirmed/corrected.

Will have a further look tomorrow.

Hi Malcolm,

I did say "part 1" and can provide further registration histories over time - I just started on the French as they came up first, too many didn't have their proper cns and duplicated records showed for many with G-A identities! I was thinking of one step at a time.

F-BGZJ is correct and GZT as you say is a Tiger Moth - I referred to a published resource that I had contributed to rather than my own original records and there is a typo introduced that had gone un-noticed. Bummer! Never trust published data!!!

The Dominie/Rapide debate - what I would say is that post-war virtually all were registered as Dragon Rapides with the various authorities. I don't think BEA would ever consider their Islander Class fleet to have been Dominies. Taken to the extreme, the first few were DH89 (with no flaps, addition of which make it 89A) and called Dragon Six before the Dragon Rapide name was adopted.

Hello Pete.

I have a slight twinge of conscience as my initial reply was drafted late yesterday evening and reading it again today it does seem a bit "stiff" but please be assured that we are grateful for all the interests shown to us by members and visitors.

I had planned to work through the pre-war De Havilland airframes but so far have only completed Tiger Moth, which was rather prolonged as you may imagine as I have included the relevant military registrations. I have a list of the many others yet to be started.

To be frank with you, I would prefer to work from my own records but would very much welcome a check as each model is completed.

The DH-89 is already creating a problem in that numbers of Dominies were transferred to the civil market and shown in many lists as Dragon Rapides and our linkage system does not allow different names among linked airframes. We are evaluating various alternatives.

I will be concentrating on Manufacturers, Models and serials data for now. The remaining data can follow.

You will be aware of the Ticket system and if you wish you could use this to advise us of additions/alterations to the other data such as engines, etc. within profiles. This can prove easier for us from an editing point of view.

I will probably begin with the civilian Dragon Rapides (the official designation rather than Rapide) to give more time to resolve the Dominie/Dragon Rapide linkage problem mentioned above.

Bit of an update!

I have now completed the serial corrections for all DH-89A and B.

We have decided to use the name Dominie/Dragon Rapide for the mainly Dominie transfers due to the linkage problem. This applies to those where the respective country registers have changed the name. Some registers have yet to be checked.

Regarding Dragon Rapides, this is a longer list.

I have temporarily retained the military registrations in the serial fields together with the corrected serials in order to aid the linkage work.
