Ken, Walt, Chris.
"Pete" yesterday suggested corrections to DH Dominies listed in the database and we need to agree certain principles.
As with the Tiger Moth, most of which were sub-contracted to Morris Motors but I have listed as De Havilland, some Dominies/Rapides were produced by Brush Coachworks but my preference is to list all of them as DH and a comment note could be added to the profile where applicable.
The DH-89A was built as Dragon Rapide for the civil market and Dominie for the Military.
Large numbers of the Dominie found their way onto the civil market.
Consequently, many profiles require linking but how to do this with registrations and names changing for military to civil.
G-ALGM for example was manufactured as X7399 a military Dominie, is listed by the CAA as a Dragon Rapide and we have it listed as a Rapide.
My understanding is that the correct name is Dragon Rapide; later it was popularly (unofficially) referred to as "Rapide".
It should be linked to F-BGOL, OO-CRS and F-BGOL.
To further confuse, a number of Dragon Rapides were produced for the military e.g. P9588 which became G-AGHI.
Options.
- don't link!
- don't use "nick name"
- if they started life as Dominie, stay with this.
- use Dominie/Rapide or Dominie (Rapide) (both not found elsewhere!)
- other alternatives?
How do you believe that we should we proceed?
Malcolm.
