ido like the site the aircraft data base is ok but something is missing from it

what about adding the ex id/reg of the aircraft or leve an space so members can put in hte ex id/reg as as it now they is not one as they get de-reg you have got no more info on that aircraft like new id/reg.

allso what about an spotters data base so when you go spotting you can put your aircraft movements id/reg onto the group so when you do vist an airport members can see what type+id/reg what airline private flights none airlines like bizjets twin aircraft choppers etc etc.

I think I follow for the first thing you are trying to say.

If there could be a spot for the old aircraft to be put seperate.

For example when Dale Earnhart Inc changed their aircraft types from Embraer 120s to Embraer 145s but used N138DE and N500DE for them the FAA data was showing they had EMB 145s for those two numbers, but page was still showing the EMB 120s I posted. When I posted my DEI Emb 145s, I needed a place for the old E120s of the same number. I had to make a fake number like xN138DE just so they could be posted and not showing with the E145s

many thanks for the replaywhat iam trying to say is this when an aircraft goes de-reg the NEW reg/reg is not showing they is NO space in the aircraft data base to put in the ex id/reg or even the NEW id/reg come to thing of it the aircraft data base is out of datd for an start of the web site owner has NOT even sent an replay about this just goes to show how much the web site owner or owners pay att to the members and its about time they did i myself put in the NEW id/reg of G-LEAR an LJ35A that used to be based at egcc in the uk and its still not showing its NEW id/reg and that was done well over an week ago

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem with old/new aircraft register numbers can trace back to the original design of this website and underlying database structure. Now it's extremely hard to fix. This has been in my todo list for a long time, but still looking for a feasible solution.

I wanted to find a thorough solution for the problem.

Your suggestion is a good workaround for now. The only glitch I can think of is this scenario:

Say regitry number N1234 has been assigned two different aircraft over it's history. Now if you add an EX. Reg record unver N1234, which aircraft should this record tie to?

Any suggestion?

the probb with aircraft on the usa reg that u can keep the id/reg an change the type of aircraft and u can still keep the same id/reg i got an photo of N225TM taken @egcc type BAE125/HAWKER now the aircraft type has no changed to an CL jet i think it is now

in the uk we dont have that probb i think what i would do there is take off the de-reg 1 and just keep the 1 that is still flying on the usa reg and have an data base of de-reg aircraft and if any member knows any info ie new id/reg to add the new id/reg then put its ex id/reg under notes

and then u got aircraft that useing an test id/reg lets take DF900 lets say F-WWID MSN 1 goes on an test flt then gets de-reg then ooto the usa reg F-WWID then gets used agin as an DF900 the the msn will then change

what i would do there is keep the test reg on the data base and when it is used agin on an test flt put its new msn in the notes and if any member knows of the id/reg put that @the side of its test reg

Hi Andy,

Thanks a lot for the idea and detailed explaination.

My idea was to create an airframe database, use it as the main index. Registry numbers (current, deregistered, test, etc) are only linked to airframes. But that requires a thorough change to the site struture, that's what was holding me from doing it.

Let me think it over.

Sort of along the lines of what Andy is saying, what about this situation...

I had posted N138DE and N500DE - Two Embraer 120s both which used to belong to Dale Earnhart Inc. When Dale Earnhart Inc bought Embraer 145s to replace the 120s, they kept the registrations - as is common with a lot of the NASCAR teams when they buy new aircraft. The database was showing it was an Embraer 145, but my Embraer 120 pictures were still showing up under the 145 and not under the previous owned.

I am sure I probably have 1000 aircraft with this situation, especially GA aircraft that I took at an event like Sun N Fun.

I have had people email me because for example a certain registration used to show up on a Lear 31 that I may have had a picture of is now on a Cessna 172. Of course the A-D database is saying it is a C172, while my Lear 31 is still showing. One guy even emails me and tells me to learn my aircraft types because I had the Lear 31 pictures posted.
